2017 SUMMER CHARITY CONCERT

The 2017 Concert at the Regal Theatre, Tenbury Wells was sensational.

The band, with their conductor Ruth Riley, opened the concert by performing the lively jazzy music of Crazy Little Thing Called Love, the lyrical and romantic ‘The Way We Were’ and the rousing rhythmic Chicago. Immediately the audience was so responsive and welcoming with their applause.

Tenbury Primary Academy Choir and the Year 7 Singers, with their dynamic conductor Kevin Bryant, were brilliant and completely stole the show with their selection of songs in both halves. Their enthusiasm was infectious and love of singing was conveyed to the audience.

Mansel Leake, one of the founder members of the band, played a superb and faultless rendition of ‘Moon River’ on the trumpet. Later in the programme Ruth Riley played the beautiful and haunting Theme from Schindler’s List on flute, which displayed her talent (she has recently gained her Grade 8 with distinction).

Choral Diversity, with their conductor Beth Melling, wowed the audience with different styles of songs. ‘I Want to Break Free’ from the Queen Medley was an undoubted highlight and it was easy to believe that Freddie had returned to make a guest appearance, complete with his hoover.

To open the second half  the band was excited and proud to show off the newly acquired Fanfare Trumpets in Scenes from a Royal Tapestry. This piece has 4 movements and tells the story of the royal court of King Henry V111. The Fanfare Trumpets heralded the appearance of the king and his court, the 3rd movement ‘Court Jester’ had members of the band donning jester’s hats  and in the final movement ‘Royal Hunt’ members of the school choir rode around the Regal on hobby horses!

If all that wasn’t dramatic enough in ‘Dr Who;Through Time and Space’, the band’s favourite piece of the year, a Dalek made an appearance together with the Time Machine and Cyber Men.

Later the band members wore cowboy hats, and in Alyson Elder’s case a moustache and poncho, to play the two Western pieces- Ghost Riders in the Sky and The Magnificent Seven

In the Finale all of the performers, together with the audience, gave a rousing rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

The band and choirs were widely acclaimed to have given an outstanding performance, with their chosen repertoires, to the delight of the audience.

Finally everyone was treated to delicious cupcakes, all baked by Jean Peters (mother of one of our young trumpet players ‘Ethan’ who recently passed his Grade 2 Trumpet with Distinction).

Numerous positive comments have been received and this one sums up the entire evening;

“Many Congratulations to all of the band for a really brilliant concert.

You are all a credit to the town.

Your support acts were a joy too.”

Fetes and Parks 2017

FETES AND PARKS 2017

TENBURY TEME VALLEY BAND is enjoying a busy year of engagements, including local Fetes and Bands in the Park.

The band has already played in the beautiful Droitwich Lido Park where there was a large and very appreciative audience, who spontaneously joined in with the singing of ‘Old Time Singalong’ which has a selection of songs such as ‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperary’. There were many comments about the wide variety of pieces chosen. One gentleman won the prize for guessing how many pieces of music were in’ Instant Concert’.

We are looking forward to playing at Cripplegate Park, Worcester and Sanders Park, Bromsgrove.

Locally, the band has been welcomed so warmly at Hope Bagot Fete, St Mary’s Church Fayre .and Tenbury Primary Academy Fete The sun shone brightly at all three events and were really well attended. At St Mary’s some of our Fanfare Trumpets were played for the first time to the delight of our audience. They sounded fantastic and were in demand all afternoon. At Hope Bagot and St Mary’s the band had the historic backdrop of two beautiful churches. It was lovely to see so many people relaxing in the sunshine, chatting with friends, enjoying a cup of tea with delicious cakes, or just sitting on the grass watching the world go by. At the school it was super to watch families joining together to raise money for their children. The older children had even created their own games.

Fanfare Trumpet Team

TENBURY TEME VALLEY BAND FANFARE TRUMPET TEAM

We are pleased to announce an exciting new initiative which will give a new dimension to the band. This is THE TENBURY TEME VALLEY BAND FANFARE TRUMPET TEAM

The TENBURY TEME VALLEY BAND FANFARE TRUMPET TEAM can create dignity or impact to announce any occasion or personality.

Ideal for weddings, product launches, store openings, sporting events, award ceremonies, civic functions, banquets, corporate or private events, opening fetes and shows

the Fanfare Trumpet Team, performing a stately fanfare, will instantly command the attention of guests.

Dressed in distinctive smart uniforms and performing on traditional long silver trumpets, the presence of a fanfare team will make any occasion feel very special indeed.

The sight and sound of these instruments is quite spectacular. Quite often a composer will choose to add fanfare trumpets to music to enhance the sound or develop the theme. Either way, the sight and sound is often awe inspiring.

Listen out for our Fanfare Team and contact the band if you would like to hire them for that special event.

25th Anniversary Concert Report

Anniversary Concert Report

On Saturday 9th July 2016 Tenbury Teme Valley Band held its 25th Anniversary Concert at the Regal Theatre in Tenbury.

All proceeds from this concert were presented to the Three local charities (Hereford Hospital Renton Unit, Equine Market Watch, and Working Together).

Wow! What a fun-filled and spectacular evening it was. The auditorium was packed with our wonderful, supportive audience who participated throughout in all the music and jollity.

The band, conducted by Ruth Riley, opened the concert with a rousing rendition of the Concert March ‘Colonel Bogey’. Another piece in this opening selection was one of the band’s current favourite pieces ‘Ecstasy of Gold’.

Tenbury C of E Primary Academy Choir, conducted by Kevin Bryant, captivated everyone with their first group of songs. One of the most poignant memories of the evening is Choral Diversity leading everyone into a standing ovation for this talented children’s choir.

The band’s saxophone section then entertained with two saxophone quartets ‘Looney Tunes’ and ‘Baby Elephant Walk’ before the full band played a Star Wars Medley, complete with sound effects, masks and light sabers (much to the delight of Star Wars fans).

Then it was the turn of Choral Diversity to take to the stage with a superb arrangement of The Lion King. Their conductor Beth Melling has created a vibrant, fun loving and clearly dedicated choir, which was appreciated by the audience.

The final group of pieces in the first half included a beautiful rendition of Going Home by the band’s horn section.

The band opened the second half with ‘Happy’ from Despicable Me 2 which led to spontaneous singing by the two choirs. The choirs and audience also enjoyed singing the songs in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Tenbury C of E Primary Academy Choir once more spread their magic over us all with their second selection of songs. What Stars they were!

In the next selection of band pieces was The Three Minute Nutcracker. This created hilarity as the band endeavoured to play the arrangement of the Nutcracker Ballet in three minutes. We also had our own ballerina, 10 year old Alice Hickey. Alice held the toy nutcracker and was delighted to be presented with a red rose at the end of her performance (as every prima ballerina should!).

Founding members of Tenbury Teme Valley Band cut the 25th Anniversary cake whilst everyone sang Happy Birthday.

After Choral Diversity had entertained us with their 2nd selection of songs it was time for the Grand Finale. Tenbury Teme Valley Band, Choral Diversity, the Tenbury Primary Academy choir and members of the Royal British Legion Choir together with the audience raised the Regal Theatre roof with You’ll Never Walk Alone and Old Time Singalong.

Everyone was treated to a cupcake as they left the theatre.

What a wonderful evening!
