A Musical Night at the Movies

Raising funds for Headsmart and Kyre Group Riding for the Disabled

On Saturday 12th July 2014 Tenbury Teme Valley Band held their Annual Charity Concert – ‘A Musical Night at the Movies’.It was a packed house at the Regal Theatre in Tenbury Wells and the audience thoroughly enjoyed an amazing evening of entertainment.

The band opened the concert with a superb rendition of ‘The Dambuster’s March’, which was preceded by a flypast of Lancaster bombers! Thank you to John Mather (Chairman of the Band Committee) and the Regal sound and lighting engineers. The band followed this with another piece and then welcomed their first special guests: Tenbury C of E Primary School Choir.

The school choir, which is made up of children aged 7 to 11, directed by Mr Kevin Bryant, enthralled the audience in both halves of the concert with an enchanting selection of songs.

After two more pieces by the band and a flute solo by the very talented Archie Auger the band welcomed its next special guests, the Ludlow and Hereford Got 2 Sing choirs. Their Musical Director, Beth Hippard, led the choir as they sang a range of songs in their vibrant and professional style.

After a short interval the second half commenced with the band performing a medley of Abba’s greatest hits. This resulted in a spontaneous singalong by choirs and audience.

Next the band welcomed an unexpected guest, Adele, who seemed pleased with the band’s interpretation of Skyfall!

It was then time for a very special part of the evening in which the band celebrated the achievements of its members. Martin Thompson was presented with a glass clarinet in recognition of 10 years dedicated service to the band. Numerous band members were congratulated on achieving their instrumental grades (see news section of website for details).

Everyone involved in supporting the band over the past year and those who helped make the concert such an amazing evening were thanked for all their hard work and commitment.

The Got 2 Sing choir and the band performed further memorable pieces and this led to the Grand Finale. All the performers joined together to give a rousing rendition of ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 miles) by the Proclaimers, ensuring the evening ended on a high note!

Fun and laughter before playing ‘James Bond’!
