2015 Annual Charity Concert Report

2015 Annual Charity Concert Report

On Saturday 11th July 2015 Tenbury Teme Valley Band held their Annual Charity Concert – ‘Music Through the Decades’. It was a packed house at the Regal Theatre in Tenbury Wells and the audience thoroughly enjoyed an amazing evening of musical entertainment.

Hannah Evans opened the concert with a vocal solo ‘Thank you for the Music’ which was immediately followed by the band playing ‘Abba Gold’. The band performed another piece from the 80’s and then welcomed their first special guests: Tenbury C of E Primary School Choir.

The school choir, which is made up of children aged 7 to 11, directed by Mr Kevin Bryant, enthralled the audience in both halves of the concert with an enchanting selection of songs. They certainly stole the show.

A clarinet solo ‘Moon River’ was played by the very talented Martin Thomson accompanied by the band. Martin was presented with a bar of chocolate (as in the TV advert). The audience sang along to ‘Symphonic Beatles’-a lively Medley of Beatles songs. Then it was time for the band to welcome its next special guests, the Ludlow and Hereford Got 2 Sing choirs.  Their Musical Director, Cathy Hart,  led the choir as they sang a range of songs in their vibrant and professional style.

After a short interval, the second half commenced with the band performing ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. Young cornet player Alice Hickey had choreographed her own dance to accompany this piece, which was greatly appreciated by the audience. Her costume, made by her Grandma Daph Rollings, was superb!  ‘Nobody Does it Better’ featured our three Tenor Saxophone players-Celia Dodd, Chris Riley and Tony Parslow. Ruth Riley played a lovely flute solo ‘Cinema Paradiso’.

Everyone had a real treat when ballroom dancers Allister Wilson and Naomi Hart performed different dance styles to the bands music including a waltz and a jive. Their changes of costume were spectacular.

It was then time for a very special part of the evening in which the band celebrated the achievements of its members. Tony Morris was presented with a glass trumpet in recognition of 10 years dedicated service to the band. Numerous band members were congratulated on achieving their instrumental grades (see news section of website for details).

Everyone involved in supporting the band over the past year and those who helped make the concert such an amazing evening were thanked for all their hard work and commitment. The band thanked the Regal Theatre Team for all their hard work in making this concert such a huge success.

The Primary School Choir, The Got 2 Sing choir and the Band performed further memorable pieces and this led to the Grand Finale. All the performers joined together in ‘Highlights from Frozen’ and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’, ensuring the evening ended on a high note!

All money raised will be donated to three local charities: Tenbury Nils, Tenbury Age UK and Café 27.
